A statue of Johann Heinrich Pestalozzi is situated in a small park named Pestalozziwiese right next to Bahnhofstrasse in downtown Zurich. Pestalozzi was a pedagogue and educational reformer whose efforts in the 19th century succeeded in almost eradicating illiteracy in Switzerland.

His motto was:

“Learning by head, hand and heart.”
